Crackdown on Illegal Constructions in Lahore: LDA and District Administration Take Decisive Action

Lahore, Pakistan – In a bold initiative to combat illegal constructions and encroachments in Lahore, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and the District Administration launched a large-scale joint operation across several city zones on Tuesday. The drive, aimed at ensuring compliance with building regulations and reclaiming public spaces, was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza and MCL Chief Officer Shahid Abbas Kathia.

Major Demolitions in Data Ganj Bakhsh and Ravi Zones

During the anti-encroachment operation, Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) teams demolished two illegal buildings in the Data Ganj Bakhsh and Ravi Zones—areas frequently cited for violating building codes. The effort is part of a city-wide campaign to tackle unauthorized development that hampers Lahore’s infrastructure and planned urban growth.

Over 170 Properties Sealed, 20 Truckloads of Material Confiscated

Authorities sealed 170 illegal properties and confiscated 20 truckloads of construction materials used in non-compliant developments. Key areas including Wahdat Road, Jubilee Town, and Niazi Chowk saw a significant clearing of encroachments. Historic locations such as Yakki Gate, Delhi Gate, and Basti Saiden Shah were also targeted to remove illegal occupations.

FIRs Registered and Legal Action Initiated

As part of the enforcement, four FIRs were registered against major violators, while several other property owners received warning notices. This legal action reflects the administration’s commitment to uphold zoning laws in Lahore and discourage future violations.

LDA Seals 126 Properties for Illegal Commercial Use

In a parallel effort, on directives from LDA Director General Tahir Farooq, 126 commercial properties were sealed across LDA-controlled schemes for either non-payment of commercial fees or unauthorized usage. Key localities affected include Gulberg, New Garden, Gujjarpura, Samanabad, Shadman, Shah Jamal, and Gulshan Ravi.

Sustainable Urban Development the Core Focus

These sweeping operations by LDA and MCL are part of broader efforts to promote sustainable urban development in Lahore, ensuring that all construction aligns with legal and environmental guidelines. Authorities emphasized that such actions are critical to maintaining the city’s infrastructure, improving traffic flow, and protecting public land from unlawful use.
